Alma Cogan was the first singer that I took notice of and I pleased to say I saw her perform live during the late 1950's in Southampton. I was around about 12/13 and in love with this beautiful fun loving singer. As Rock 'N Roll took over the charts it wasn't done to admit to be a fan of somebody your parents liked but I still remained a fan, even though I kept it quiet.
She was Britain's first international female star, appearing on American television and topping the music charts in Australia, Germany, Sweden and Israel. Alma occupied the Number One position in the Japanese charts for over a year. Her career lasted just short span of twelve years until her untimely death in 1966 of cancer. Alma was not just a singer she was a true performer with a wonderful personality and sense of humour.
